London: Historic City Walking Tour(& Rooftop Garden Access*)
London’s oldest quarter packs nearly 2,000 years into a three-hour walk. You’ll move from Roman boundaries and medieval lanes to the Bank of England, the Tower of London, and the glassy Shard, with a guide explaining how these very different Londons fit together.
I like the clear historical storyline, which begins at Temple and ends by the Thames, and I like the offbeat stops, especially Dr. Johnson’s House, St. Bride’s Church, and Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese. Guides such as Maggie, Lucas, Carolina, Matt, and Margaret are praised for making the facts lively rather than turning the walk into a lecture.
The main drawback is pace. You cover a lot of ground in three hours, and the tour is mostly about exterior views and street-level stories, not interior visits to the Tower, St. Paul’s, or the Bank of England. The rooftop garden is included only on Sundays and Mondays, so check the day before booking.
